This is a unique and unusual item. It is called a ratchet candle holder. This design is possibly through research made, and or inspired from the Shakers. it is handmade, and possibly made of oak. The function of this candle holder is that as the candle burns down, you would ratchet up the holder so that the candle light is at the desired level for reading or sewing or cooking, etc. This is considered a table model and is made of wood from the top to the bottom, held by metal nails, vintage style and patinaed. Date and origin unknown. Total unit is in very good condition, please see pic of ratchet notch/lever. There is a old Weathered split and wood however, has not compromised ratchet teeth. As seen in pics, the lever does not go to bottom teeth. Ratchet, this might reflect as to why there is a previous damage, since someone probably tried to ratchet as far as it can go. The duel, candle stick bar swings, and can be featured, outward or inward as shown in pics. Metal black candlestick holder is in very good condition. There are no dents or bends in metal. At lowest level candle holder stands at 16 inches tall and extends up to 22 1/2 inches tall. Please see pics of other measurements regarding base and middle and upper brace bar. This is a very interesting and a conversational piece to be admired, and or used for its use.
