This
is an unusual piece...I had to search for a similar image on the internet because
I didn’t have a clue what it was.
I found it in with my grandparents’ things. At first I thought it was a kitchen gadget. I could just imagine it being used in a smokehouse or country kitchen with kettles and open fires. When I did an internet search for a similar image, I found only one
similar which is hard to believe in itself. They listed theirs as a metal matchbox & candle / candlestick holder so that is what I’m going with as well.
The metal is hammered and as you can see rusted. It is sturdy though and doesn’t feel fragile by any means. It measures approx. 5 3/8” tall and 5 ¼” at its widest dimension and stand on 3 legs. I didn’t see any markings on it. It does look to have an “O” ring on the side. I have no idea how old it is. The other piece online was listed as being antique but again, since I don’t know how old it is I will refrain from using that distinction.
