VASE: crafted and signed by Desideria Montoya Sanchez of San Ildefonso in New Mexico. Weight ~1.8 pounds, ~810 grams. Height 5 1/8 inches (13 cm). Diameter of base 2 7/8 inches (7.3 cm); outer diameter of mouth 3 5/8 inches (9.2cm); inner diameter of mouth 3 7/8 inches (9.8 cm); maximum diameter at waist is 6 inches (15.2 cm). S igned “Desideria” in clay at the base. This vase was purchased new in the mid-1950's and is in overall very good condition, with no chips, mars, scratches, cracks or repairs. CANDLEHOLDERS: Desideria was the sister of the more noted artist and potter Maria Martinez. Maria had a son, Popovi, who also became a proficient potter. Popovi and Maria began a collaborative period of pottery making in the mid-1950's that lasted all through the 1960's, and these candlestick holders were made early in that period. They were purchased new with the vase and all 3 have been displayed together as a set all this time.
