Impressive and rustic, cast brass, 7-branch menorah or candelabra.
Can be used to create an atmospheric space, with no limitation according to one's religion or belief!
Yellow, minimally-tarnished brass.
Vague etchings of trailing vines and leaves impressed on the brass.
Fits European thin, .50" dia base tapers, rather than regular 1" base diameter tapers.
Excellent condition, although one candleholder is slightly less deep than all the rest. Still works, though, to hold a candle.
Measures 8" wide X 11" tall with 4" square base.
"The 7 branch menorah is a representation of the seven-branched lamp which was in the Temple. It was carved on the Arch of Titus in Rome, signifying that the Roman armies looted the Temple and took the objects in it to Rome. The 7 branch menorah is a common and very old symbol of Judaism, and is seen in artwork, carvings and synagogue decorations all over the world. The 9 branch menorah is properly called a hanukiah, as it is designed specifically to be used at Hanukah, to light the eight candles for the eight days of the holiday. The ninth candle (or light) is the ‘shamash’ (helper) which is used to light the other candles, and which is not itself counted in the total candles for each night (one on the first night, two on the second and so on, until the eighth night, when all the candles are lit)."
