PRIMITIVE STYLE BLACK IRON HANGING CANDLE HOLDER LOOM LIGHT CHANDELIER.
New 20” long x 3” across bottom, Lovely example of a mid to late 18th century reproduction loom light.
These loom lights originated in New England with this style of design showing up in Pennsylvania culture during the 18th century period as well. Hanging candle holders such as this would have been kept at various locations in an early home, hung from lamp support spikes, over door frames, off the backs of ladder back chairs, etc. One such location was also off a weaving loom, this style of light bears its namesake as lore has it that young women would work their looms into the evening by the illumination of the single socketed candle holder.
A great example of early New England colonial era lighting that is often referenced in numerous volumes on the subject of period interior furnishings.
