Nice pair of antique
18th century neoclassical candlesticks made of high copper content
bronze, like bell metal. The columns are fluted and seamed in the 18th
century manner, and they have square knops under the sockets. The stems
meet the square base in a central circular depression and the base
itself has a nice gadrooned molding at the edge, which is stepped. These were
made during the 1750s before evolving sinto other forms of the 1700s. Very nice neoclassical 18th century brass candlestick. The form is balanced and
lovely. Condition: Very good
condition but viewed in one direction one candlestick has a little lean to it
and some solder underneath where was once a peened shaft, which is an
old repair; also, the stem is twisted a bit (see photos). May need
cleaning as desired. About 9 3/8" tall X about 4 1/8" square
