To eliminate sharp edges all the metal edges are folded over and pressed tightly flat against the body. It is all very traditional with no fancy additions to increase its cost to the original purchaser. It cannot predate 1885 because that's when spot welding was invented and you can see those welds on the bottom, but I don't know its actual age...perhaps early 1900's. It's well made and not just stamped like modern reproductions. It's mostly rust free and it has some of its original surface sheen. See photos.
