This antique chamberstick candle holder dates back to the 1780s - 1800's during the reign of Queen Anne and bears her badge, the Tudor Rose and Thistle, and contains the W M indicating William & Mary. Made of quality low lead English pewter. Basically, pewter was crafted by hand before 1840 in England by a pewtersmith and bears 3 readable touchmarks (hallmarks), indicating its authenticity. The griffin is a Bristol mark, 3 stars indicate the 3rd generation, the W is the surname of the maker, AE Williams Co. One unreadable touch due to wear, which further authenticates it. The item is perfect for collectors of metalware and pewter, especially those interested in candle holders. Its unique design and historical significance make it a valuable addition to any pewter collection. These were copied and machine made after 1840 by other companies. Wear and use are consistent with age. Also included is the snuffer, which completes the holder. Sold uncleaned, as-is and shown. Weighs a solid 470g.
