Offered for sale is a pair of 1700's era carved wood oak candlestcks or prickets that stand about 19" tall and 4" diameter. Study the pictures to appreciate the carvings, patina, age and rarity of this pair. We bought these about 20 years ago in France and used them in our home until recently. I challenge you to find a similar pair on the internet-all are later. This early type of candlestick had the pricket- Although candles could be held by hand, candlesticks were a common sight in European medieval households, for both rich and poor. The first examples of these were simply designed structures of metal or wood with vertical spikes, or prickets, on which candles could be secured. This pair has the pricket with a metal drip pan. These are great for pillar candles. A true rare antique! With 16,000 sq ft, the Antique Attic is the largest privately owned antique shop in Alabama.
